TVS Motors has unveiled the X, its much-anticipated electric scooter, for a starting price of INR 2.50 lakh, making it the most expensive electric scooter available in India. This scooter brings a number of notable characteristics to the Indian electric scooter industry.

he TVS X is India’s first electric scooter with single-channel ABS, which improves braking safety. It is powered by a 4.4kWh battery with a range of 140km on a single charge. A Smart X Home rapid charger can charge the battery from 0 to 50% in 50 minutes (with an optional 3kW fast charger add-on), and a portable 950W charger can charge the battery to 80% in 4 hours and 30 minutes for INR 16,275 (including GST).

The X’s elegant design conceals a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with a peak power output of 11kW and a peak torque of 40Nm. This configuration allows the scooter to go from 0 to 40kph in 2.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 105kph. The X comes with three riding modes: Xtealth, Xtride, and Xonic, as well as regenerative braking.

The X is outfitted with an advanced 10.25-inch TFT display that allows riders to vary its orientation. Bluetooth connectivity is provided for music playback and navigation alerts. Riders can also watch videos or play games while stationary using the PlayTech entertainment system. There are additional convenience features such as reverse assist, cruise control, and a hill-hold function.

The TVS X has a distinct design that is inspired by the famous Creon concept, which was first shown at the 2018 Auto Expo. Notably, it does away with the typical floorboard in favour of a design in which the frame’s spine takes up that space. The scooter also has a unique split-seat configuration and 19 litres of storage space beneath the seat.

Despite its luxury amenities, the TVS X is expensive, costing INR 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Notably, it is ineligible for the FAME-II subsidy. Bookings for the X have begun, with deliveries planned to begin in November 2023, first in Bengaluru, then nationwide by March 2024. The first 2,000 purchasers will receive a free Smartwatch and an INR 18,000 ‘Curated Concierge’ bundle.

With its amazing performance, smart features, and distinctive look, the TVS X seeks to set new benchmarks in India’s electric scooter sector. However, its high price puts it in a class by itself among electric scooters in the country.
