Hyundai has revealed details about the upcoming Exter micro SUV’s safety features ahead of its market debut in the coming months. In India, the Exter will be Hyundai’s entry into the popular micro-SUV sector, which also includes the popular Tata Punch and Citroen C3.

Safety Features in Hyundai Exter SUV

Hyundai has stated that all Exter models will come standard with six airbags (driver, passenger, curtain, and side). While the six-airbag rule will be implemented for all passenger vehicles in the coming months, Hyundai claims that the Exter is the only vehicle under four metres in the world to have this as standard. It also has a dashcam with dual cameras and, in higher variations, a reverse camera. With six airbags as standard, the Exter could be the most cheap car on the market when it debuts.

Furthermore, the Exter’s higher trims will include standard safety equipment such as ESP, hill assist control, three-point seat belts with reminders, rear parking sensors, ABS, and EBD, among others. These items will also be available as optional extras in the entry-level E and S trims.

The micro-SUV will also have automatic headlights with a follow me home function, ISOFIX mounts, and a tyre pressure monitor, which are comparable to the safety features seen in its competitors.

Engine and Transmission

The Exter will be equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine as well as a CNG fuel alternative. The Exter petrol will be offered with either a five-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox, whilst the Exter CNG will only be available with a manual gearbox. While power and torque levels have not been officially released, we anticipate the 1.2-litre engine to produce 83hp and 114Nm of torque, which is comparable to the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Venue.

Similarly, the CNG powerplant, like its sedan and hatchback predecessors, could produce 69hp and 95.2Nm. The Exter will be available in five trim levels: EX, S, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect.

Launching of Hyundai Exter SUV

The Hyundai Exter pricing will be announced in late July or early August of this year. The SUV will sit below the Venue and be the brand’s most affordable SUV in India. Hyundai is also preparing to launch the Creta facelift and Creta N Line on the market early next year.
