- MG Motor India is set to launch the Comet EV, a two-door electric city car, on April 26th, with prices to be revealed in May 2023.
- The Comet EV will offer unique exterior packages, dual 10.25-inch infotainment screens, and a capacity of around 20kWh, with a claimed driving range of over 200km on a single charge.

MG Motor India will introduce the new Comet EV on April 26, but the company will only reveal the starting price at first, with full-range pricing to follow in May 2023.
The two-door, small Comet EV is in a market all its own, but it will compete directly with the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3. MG will target buyers searching for an urban city runabout with a small footprint with its smallest electric car.
The Comet EV is effectively a rebadged Wuling Air EV offered in Indonesia, and it is built on parent firm SAIC’s GSEV platform. This all-electric platform will also serve as the foundation for the EV SUV version of the Comet, the Baojun Yep SUV, which has boxy proportions and a high ground clearance and will be on sale in India in 2025.
As previously reported, the Comet EV is 2,974mm long, 1,505mm wide, 1,631mm tall, and have a wheelbase of 2010mm, making it shorter and slimmer than its direct competitor, the Tiago EV. MG has yet to formally reveal the specs of the Comet EV’s battery pack, but it is believed to feature a capacity of around 20kWh and a claimed driving range of over 200km on a single charge.

Features in MG Comet EV
The Comet EV was recently shown in production shape, with the manufacturer previewing many unique exterior packages that will be available with the vehicle. The two-door, boxy dimensions with futuristic design features already give the Comet EV a distinct appearance, which will be enhanced by eccentric colour options. Comet EV can be seen in greater detail in the photographs below.
In addition, as previously hinted, the Comet EV will be the first mass-market EV to feature a dual 10.25-inch infotainment screen arrangement. A two-spoke steering wheel with Apple iPod-inspired controls, a rigid four-seater configuration, and the customary space and packaging advantages of born EVs are other highlights of the Comet EV’s interior. Expect linked car technology, an electric parking brake, hill-start assist, keyless enter and go, drive modes, and voice commands as standard equipment.
Price of MG Comet EV
The Comet EV is likely to cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tata Tiago EV is priced between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh, while the Citroen eC3 is priced between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 12.43 lakh, both ex-showroom. The Comet will be assembled in India, and MG intends to localise it to over 60% in order to keep the price as low as possible.
