For quite some time, the C3 Aircross, based on the India-spec C3 hatchback, has been the talk of the town. The French automaker’s confirmation of the C3 Aircross moniker for the SUV indicates that this new model will differ from those sold in Europe.

The teaser image for the global unveiling on April 27th demonstrates this further, since it shows a part of the SUV’s front end with the trademark X-shaped DRLs seen on the India-spec C3 hatchback.

The new C3 Aircross is projected to have a design that is similar to the hatchback on which it is based, but with a more upright appearance typical of SUVs. In addition, unlike the C3 hatch, Citroen’s new Aircross-badged SUV is projected to exceed the 4-metre threshold. Some theories about vehicle water coolers say that the French manufacturer may even launch a seven-seater model.

Camouflaged mules of the new C3 Aircross SUV have been observed on our streets more frequently as the French manufacturer prepares to launch its debut into the compact SUV market dominated by the Hyundai Creta. The powertrain of the next Mercedes C3 Aircross SUV is likely to be introduced on April 27th. The turbocharged petrol engine from the hatchback will be carried over to the new SUV.

This 1.2-litre turbo three-pot powertrain produces 109bhp and 190Nm of peak torque in the C3 hatchback and is teamed with a six-speed manual gearbox.

While there has been no official announcement on an electric version of the C3 Aircross, we do anticipate the SUV to receive a fully electrified edition in the near future.

The Citroen C3 Aircross is the name given to the French automaker’s compact SUV based on the C3 hatchback. On April 27th, we expect the French automaker to release a lot more information about the SUV, including when we can get behind the wheel of the all-new C3 Aircross.
