Big Update: Maruti Suzuki Jimny Production to start in April

More than 18000 booking have been made for Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

Maruti Suzuki unveiled the much-anticipated 5-door Jimny on January 12 at the Auto Expo 2023, and it will go on sale in May of this year. Bookings for the iconic SUV are now open, and we now have more information on the production and allocation of Maruti’s sub-four-metre off-roader ahead of its launch.

More than 1 Lakh Unit to produce

According to sources, Maruti will begin production of the Jimny in April and plans to build around 1 lakh units per year. Maruti will set aside approximately 66 percent for domestic sales and the remainder for exports. Maruti Suzuki intends to produce approximately 7,000 units per month for the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki has already received over 18,000 bookings for the Jimny, indicating that the off-roader is popular. The Jimny is available in four variants, with Maruti Suzuki likely prioritising production of the top-spec Alpha trim.

The Jimny is available in only two trim levels: Zeta and Alpha, with the latter including auto headlamps, SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, and Arkayms sound system. Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand, includes standard safety features such as six airbags and hill-hold assist.

The Jimny is powered by a 105hp, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. In terms of off-road capability, the Jimny gets Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high,’ ‘4WD-high,’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes. The Jimny is also supported by a tough ladder-frame chassis.

Estimated Price of Maruti Suzuki Jimny

Maruti is expected to price the Jimny around Rs 12 lakh, and it will go on sale in May 2023. While it will have no direct competitors at launch, Mahindra and Force are both working on 5-door versions of the Thar and Gurkha, respectively.

Electric version of Maruti Suzuki Jimny in 2026

Suzuki is developing an all-electric Jimny, which will first be available in Europe in three-door form. A five-door Jimny EV will follow, which will be manufactured in India. More information is scarce, but Maruti Suzuki could use the 60kWh battery pack used on the eVX concept, which was also shown at Auto Expo 2023.
